The 4th Workshop on Energy for Sustainable Science at Research Infrastructures, organized at Magurele-Bucharest (Romania) under the joint aegis of CERN, DESY, the European Spallation Source ESS, the Association of European-level Research Infrastructure Facilities ERF-AISBL, the ARIES Integration Activity project under the Horizon 2020 European program, and the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics ELI-NP project, attracted some 70 experts from laboratories and government on 23 and 24 November 2017. This series of biennial events was initiated in 2011 by major research organizations to address energy usage and environmental footprint of large research facilities. Twenty-five presentations covered the progress in the field, in terms of strategies and plans, as well as practical developments and their implementation. It was nice to find out that the Chair of the Organizing Committee, Dan Gabriel Ghita, is a JUAS alumnus (2004)!
Philippe Lebrun, director of JUAS, attended the Workshop and made an invited presentation on “Energy efficiency of particle accelerators and colliders” in a plenary session devoted to energy management and efficiency.
