BioHealth Computing Schools

BioHC schools give highly motivated graduates and early-career professionals the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of translational research and innovation  approaches in human and environmental health.


Competition in the field of biomedical computing and engineering is witnessing a shift from a national focus to a global scale. Collaboration is a keystone in building highly coherent innovation ecosystems for health in Europe. Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA FR), Universitat de Barcelona (UB, SP), the European Scientific Institute (ESI CERN supported, FR) and European Partner Institutions jointly set up the bioHC Schools to address the challenges associated with education, research  and innovation in health and wellbeing.


Intensive, innovative and international 

All BioHC schools bring together young scientists from a range of cultural and scientific backgrounds. A typical school will have between twenty and thirty participants from over ten nationalities, with backgrounds in biology and biotechnology, physics and engineering, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, pharmacy …). Faculty members include leading specialists from partner universities and research laboratories as well as invited speakers from academia and industry.


Complex problem-solving

BioHC schools are designed around the case study of a particular pathology or device, which serves as a focus for lectures, practical sessions and interdisciplinary group work based on the collaborative resolution of complex problems.


Innovation & entrepreneurship

Students are likewise encouraged to develop their entrepreneurial awareness and business skills through interdisciplinary group work on an innovation project. The last day of the school involves students pitching their projects to a panel of experts.
