Prof. Vittorio Vaccaro

Prof. Vittorio Vaccaro obtained his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II in 1965.

In 1966 he was hired by CERN as an electronic engineer. At that time there was much concern on the stability of the beams in the storage ring. He collaborated with Andy Sessler (Fermi Award 2013), who was on leave of absence from Berkeley. Then he started to collaborate with Sandro Ruggiero on beam stability and coupling impedance.

In 1969 he returned to Naples as professor of Electromagnetic Fields. He continued to work on accelerators and had the good fortune to be the mentor of many excellent students who now occupy top positions in various accelerator centers.

In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious ACFA/IPAC Xie Jialin Prize for his contribution to the field of particle accelerators.
