Xavier Queralt obtained his PhD degree in 1993 at the Department of Applied Physics (University of Barcelona). Xavier attended the first JUAS course in 1994 following which he held a European Community Postdoc Fellowship at Daresbury Laboratory (UK) for two years. During his time at Daresbury he did the first design studies of the insertion devices for the DIAMOND synchrotron light source.
He worked for 10 years at Alba Synchrotron Light Source (Barcelona-Spain) in the Safety department. During that time he was responsible for the radiation protection (as Head of the Alba Radiation Protection Service) as well as conventional Health & Safety aspects.
Since 2015 he has been the Health Physics & Facility Safety Group leader at ISIS Neutron and Muon Spallation Source located at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Oxfordshire-UK). He manages the staff that provide Health Physics, radioactive waste management, dosimetry and H&S support to ISIS.
