Dr. Bernhard Holzer works as Senior Scientist at CERN on the design of several future accelerator projects.
He was deputy coordinator of the HERA collider, and during LHC Run 1 (when the Higgs particle was found) he was member of the machine coordinator’s team. Bernhard studied physics at University Heidelberg and Grenoble and spent some useful time at different physics (mainly accelerator - ) labs, like ILL (Grenoble) Max Planck (Heidelberg), DESY (Hamburg) and now CERN.
In the last 30 years he was and still is supervisor for many PhD thesis in accelerator physics and is now - among other tasks - in charge of doctoral students at CERN for the accelerator department.
In the frame of different accelerator schools and universities, Bernhard has given lectures in more than 20 countries. He has five children (… alas … none of them is fanatic for physics) and loves sailing, cycling, and a good glass of wine at the fire place to forget the grey and cold Geneva winter.
